Garrett Lisi on his theory of e8

David Cooper - Wednesday, September 01, 2010

Working from principles of differential geometry, physicist Garrett Lisi is developing a new unified theory that purports to explain all the elementary particles, and gravity, in one elegant model. His theory is based on a mathematical shape called E8. With 248 symmetries, E8 is large, complex and beautiful -- and Lisi believes the relationships of its symmetries correspond to known particles and forces, including gravity.

Theoretically, every bit of the universe is either/or matter and energy. The fabric of space must be resolved here. Therefore, the E8 is a 'coarse' representation of an infinite # of interactive entities which we haven't been able to observe. That said,
I believe that C is valid and we will not observe hyper C acceleration. I think its value should be studied via 'nano-scale' nuclear conversion of mass to e within a collection cell like the SHC. Splitting neutrons is insufficient.
